In this guide

Ten days is the first comfortable length for the whole Turkish circuit: Istanbul, Cappadocia, the Antalya coast, Pamukkale and Ephesus, with no daily hotel changes and no marathon drives. The shape is a one-way flow east to west: 3 nights in Istanbul, 2 in Goreme, 2 in Antalya, 2 in Selcuk, and the last night back in Istanbul. This 10 days in turkey itinerary lays out each day, the three flights that carry it, and what the fortnight-minus costs.

Key Takeaways

  • Nine nights across four bases: 3 Istanbul, 2 Goreme, 2 Antalya, 2 Selcuk. Unpack four times in ten days.
  • Fly Istanbul to Cappadocia, Cappadocia to Antalya, Izmir to Istanbul. Drive only Antalya to Pamukkale (4 hours) to Selcuk (3 hours).
  • Pamukkale works as a touring day between bases, not as a base itself.
  • The balloon gets two Cappadocia mornings; Antalya gets a full ruins day plus a slow one.
  • Open-jaw flights (into Istanbul, out of Izmir) buy back half a day when priced sanely.

How should you split 10 days across five stops?

DaysWhereThe point of the stop
1 to 3IstanbulOld city sights, Bosphorus, bazaars, Beyoglu nights
4 to 5CappadociaBalloon dawn, Open Air Museum, valleys, one underground city
6 to 7AntalyaKaleici, Duden falls, Perge, Aspendos, Side
8Pamukkale (touring day)Travertines, Hierapolis, then sleep in Selcuk
9Selcuk and EphesusRuins at 08:00, Terrace Houses, Sirince
10IstanbulBuffer night, then home

Against the 7-day Turkey itinerary, the extra three days buy exactly three things: a third Istanbul day (Bosphorus and Beyoglu instead of a rush), a second Antalya day (Perge plus Aspendos plus Side instead of a choice), and a full Ephesus day instead of a half. Nothing on this route needs a car except the Pamukkale transfer day, where a private driver turns transport into sightseeing.

Days 1 to 3: how do you open in Istanbul?

Days 1 and 2 follow the standard drill from our Istanbul guide: arrive and walk Sultanahmet on day 1, then Hagia Sophia (25 euros) at opening, Topkapi with the Harem (about 45 euros) and the Cistern (about 20) on day 2 (Hotel Perula 2026 prices). Day 3 is the dividend the 7-day trip skips.

Start at the Spice Bazaar, smaller and more fragrant than the Grand, and buy the trip’s lokum and tea here rather than at the airport on day 10. Cross to Eminonu for the long Bosphorus cruise to Anadolu Kavagi, 90 minutes each way past palaces and fortresses. End across the bridge in Beyoglu: Istiklal Avenue on foot, Galata Tower only if the queue is short, dinner in a meyhane. This is also the day to confirm every onward flight and the balloon booking.

Days 4 to 5: what does an unhurried Cappadocia look like?

Fly on the morning of day 4 and tour the north valleys that afternoon: Pasabag, Avanos, Uchisar sunset. Day 5 runs the balloon at dawn on the first of two protected mornings (170 to 230 euros peak, per the 2026 balloon price guide), the Open Air Museum (20 euros plus 6 for the Dark Church) after breakfast, and an underground city after lunch. The 10-day dividend is sunset in Love Valley and a dinner you are awake for, since day 6’s flight south leaves midday rather than at dawn.

Tall fairy chimneys rising from the slopes of Love Valley

Love Valley’s fairy chimneys. Day 5 ends here at sunset, a walk the 7-day version squeezes out.

Our Cappadocia guide prices every sight and the pass maths; the short version is that the 65-euro regional pass pays off at three major sites, and the balloon (170 to 230 euros peak) wants booking with your international flights.

Days 6 to 7: how do you do Antalya properly?

Day 6 flies south (often via Istanbul; allow the connection) and walks Kaleici: Hadrian’s Gate, the harbour, Hidirlik sunset. Day 7 runs the eastern road at opening time: Perge (11 euros) first, Aspendos theatre (15 euros) late morning, then Side for lunch and the Temple of Apollo toward sunset (Turkey Family Tours Antalya fees). Three Roman sites in one day sounds heavy, but with an early start and a driver it finishes by late afternoon with a swim still possible.

Rows of standing columns along the colonnaded main street of Perge

The colonnaded street at Perge. Start here at opening time, when the light runs down the avenue and the buses have not arrived.

Day 7 also carries the trip’s easiest cut: if ruins fatigue sets in, swap Perge for a Konyaalti beach morning and keep only Aspendos. The itinerary survives either version.

Days 8 to 10: Pamukkale, Ephesus and home?

Day 8 leaves Antalya early for the 4-hour drive north to Pamukkale. Walk the travertines barefoot at midday (combined entry about 900 lira, per the Istanbul Trip 7-day circuit), tour the Hierapolis theatre and museum after, then drive 3 hours west to sleep in Selcuk. It is the longest transfer day of the trip and the only one that feels like it; an early start and a private driver are the difference between sightseeing and suffering.

Day 9 is Ephesus exactly as our Ephesus guide prescribes: Upper Gate at 08:00, downhill to Celsus, Terrace Houses (15 euros on top of 40 entry, per Tours Around Turkey 2026 fees), out before the cruise wave, then Selcuk museum and Sirince village. Day 10 flies Izmir to Istanbul with a wide buffer, or straight home on an open-jaw ticket. Open-jaw means flying into one city and home from another, here into Istanbul and out of Izmir, which removes the final backtrack day when priced sanely. Land in Istanbul with at least four free hours before an international departure: the domestic leg can slip, airport transfers run 45 to 60 minutes, and a missed connection costs more than the hotel night you skipped to save it.

Curved sandy bay backed by steep pine-covered mountains

The coast west of Antalya. Ten days is the first length where a beach half-day fits without stealing from the ruins.

Count the skeleton before the hotels: three domestic flights at 2,000 to 4,000 lira each, the balloon at 6,000 to 10,000 lira per person in season, and headline entries of roughly 90 euros (Istanbul big three) plus 26 (Aspendos plus Perge) plus 55 (Ephesus with Terrace Houses) plus 20 (Pamukkale). Two travelling mid-range land near 180 euros per person per day all in, against about 200 on the faster 7-day version, because slower days dilute the fixed flight costs. The Turkey itineraries page holds both speeds; pick by temperament, not by ambition.

Frequently asked questions

Is 10 days enough for Turkey?

Yes for the full classic circuit at a comfortable pace: 3 nights Istanbul, 2 Cappadocia, 2 Antalya, 2 Selcuk, with Pamukkale as a touring day between Antalya and Selcuk. Nine nights across four bases means unpacking only four times. Seven days covers the same stops but rushed; twelve adds a slow coast or Gallipoli.

Should you add Antalya or Gallipoli to 10 days?

Antalya if you want sea time, ruins in the morning and slow afternoons; it trades nothing away on this route since Pamukkale sits on the road anyway. Gallipoli and Troy suit history-first trips and replace the Antalya leg. Families with younger children usually prefer Antalya.

How do you travel between regions in 10 days?

Fly the three long legs: Istanbul to Cappadocia (about 80 minutes), Cappadocia to Antalya, and Izmir to Istanbul. Drive only the Antalya to Pamukkale (about 4 hours) to Selcuk (about 3 hours) stretch, where the road itself carries the sightseeing.

Where does Pamukkale fit without wrecking the pace?

As a touring day between Antalya and Selcuk, not as a base. Leave Antalya early, walk the terraces midday, tour Hierapolis after, and sleep in Selcuk. The village at Pamukkale works too, but Selcuk puts you at Ephesus for the 08:00 opening.

Is an open-jaw flight worth it for 10 days?

Arriving Istanbul and departing Izmir saves the final backtrack and effectively buys half a day. It usually costs little more than a return to Istanbul. If the open-jaw prices badly, keep the return and protect the last night in Istanbul instead.
